The Centlivre Brewery began as the French Brewery in 1862 on the banks of the St Joe
River just north of Fort Wayne by Charles Louis Centlivre, along with his brother, Francois and
Father, Louis Charles Centlivre. The location was ideal since it provided ice for the summer
from the river and allowed shipping on the Feeder Canal. State Blvd. West of the river was
originally known as Centlivre Ave. and the area was named Centlivre-ville. Within a short
period of time, the Centlivre family had established themselves as the main provider of
beverages to the region’s residents. The Centlivre family still resides in Fort Wayne and has
always considered living here as one of life’s great blessings.
